Helen Faggart Nesbit

Our Mom, Helen Amelia Faggart Nesbit, walked home with Jesus and was reunited with our Dad on Friday, July 16. Her parents, Fred and Mae Isenhour Faggart, her sister, Ruby Aldridge and her brothers, Ned, Stacy, Roy and Troy were waiting for her, too. Helen was born December 12, 1920 and grew up on Heglar Rd., on the farm her parents bought from the Isenhour family. She married our Dad, Lloyd, on Dec, 14, 1940. They were married for 64 years before Lloyd was called home in 2005. They were devoted to each other and taught us, by their examples, to work hard, be honest, be satisfied with what you have and take care of it, and to love God, your family, and your friends. Helen was a wonderful cook and was known for her fried chicken, homemade noodles, chicken salad, and coconut cake. She was also a talented seamstress who made beautiful dresses, jackets, and skirts. She and our Dad were green-thumb gardeners and she spent many summer days freezing and canning freshly picked vegetables. Her greatest love in life was supporting, encouraging, and “doing for” her family. She loved having all of us together to share a good meal and good conversation. Helen worked in several of the local mills and the last few years of her employment were spent in the cafeteria at Mt. Pleasant Elementary School. Helen was the oldest member of St. John's Lutheran Church and she loved her church family. She was a member of the Elizabeth Cauble Circle, joining soon after she was married and beame a member of the church. Through the years, she served as president, secretary, and treasurer of the group. She enjoyed the study, fellowship, and service projects of her circle. In past years, she served on several committees of the Lutheran Church Women (now Women Of ELCA) at St John's. She also enjoyed teaching Sunday School for the children's classes. She and our Dad enjoyed being members of the St. John's Grange. Helen was selected as the St. John's Grange Woman of the Year in 1995. Left to cherish her memory are her son, Donald Nesbit and wife, Lynn and daughter, Susan Hayes and husband, Jim. She is also survived by her grandson, Travis Nesbit and wife, Shannon, her granddaughter, Ashlyn Jordan and husband, Dave, and great grand-children, Audrey Nesbit and Cooper and Zack Jordan. Also surviving are her many nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews, whom she loved very much and who always made her smile. Funeral service will be 11:00am Tuesday, July 20 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, officiated by Rev. Dr. Mark Ericson. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The Nesbit family will receive friends from 6-8pm Monday evening at Gordon Funeral Home of Mt. Pleasant. We would like to give our deepest gratitude to Sara, Amanda, and Tammy, for staying with our mom when we called. No words can express our thankfulness to June Jenkins for loving and caring for our mom like she was her own. Memorials may be directed to the St. John’s Lutheran Church, Helping Hands Fund or the Elizabeth Cauble Circle, 100 St. John’s Church Rd., Concord, NC 28025.
