James Coley

James Benard Coley, 67 of Crayton Rd., Mt. Pleasant, passed away Sunday, April 20, 2014 at his residence. Funeral service will be 2:00pm Wednesday at St. Stephen's Wesleyan Church, officiated by Rev. Gary Morris and Rev. Buck Cannup, where he will lie in state for 30 minutes prior to the service; burial will follow in the church cemetery. The Coley family will receive friends from 6-8pm Tuesday at Gordon Funeral Home of Mt. Pleasant and at other times at his residence. Mr. Coley was born May 17, 1946 in Cabarrus County son of the late Hugh Colen Coley and Annie Belle Smith Coley. He was a member of St. Stephen's Wesleyan Church. He worked construction until his health forced him to retire. He was preceded in death by a sister Doris Coley Herrin. He survived by his wife Betty Medlin Coley, daughters, Lana Ward and fiancé Zeke Hartsell and Angie Kemp and husband Tony all of Mt. Pleasant, brother, Dale Coley and wife Becky of Mt. Pleasant, grandchildren, Zack Ward and wife Katrina of Jacksonville, NC, Nicole Beaver and husband Josh, and Chris Kemp of Mt. Pleasant, and Keith Hartsell of Norwood. The family would like to thank Tara Curlee and Tasha Brown, our angles on earth, from United Hospice for their excellent care of James during his illness.
