John Andrew Shue

John Andrew Shue, 80, of Mt. Pleasant, passed away at his home on Friday, March 10, 2017. A celebration of his life will begin at 3 p.m. Monday, March 13, at Mt. Olive Lutheran Church where he was a life-long member. The Rev. Mike Johnson will officiate, and burial will follow in the church cemetery. The Shue family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. on Sunday at Gordon Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant. A Cabarrus County native, John was born on Oct. 21, 1936, to Adam Shue and Cora Elizabeth Freeman Shue. In addition to his parents, John was predeceased by two sisters, Dorothy S. Auten and Margaret S. Smith; and his beloved horse, Blaze. John retired as a driver/delivery man from the former Cannon Mills where he had worked in Plants 1, 2, 7 and 15 over his 45 years in textiles. A beekeeper, he was an outdoors man at heart. John was a life member of the Mt. Olive Hunting Club, and he enjoyed hunting and fishing, especially with his grandchildren. Back in the day, he also played on the Mt. Olive church softball team. Indoors or outdoors, John enjoyed playing his banjo, solo or with fellow pickers who joined in to jam. Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Alice Eudy Shue of the home; a daughter, Jennifer S. Troutman (James); two sons, Johnny Shue (Roxanne) and Jeff Shue (Toni); eight grandchildren, Elizabeth S. Pless (Daniel) and Andrew Shue; Taylor, Ashley and Amber Shue; and Jimmy, Jacob and Joseph Troutman; three sisters, Peggy S. Mullis, Mary S. Miller and Myrtle S. Love; three brothers, James Shue, Reid Shue and Ray Shue; and a host of nieces and nephews. Memorials may be directed to Mt. Olive Lutheran Church, 9400 Gold Hill Road, Mt. Pleasant, NC, 28124.
