Richard Schnabel 79 of Mt Pleasant passed away Oct 2, 2017 after a short illness. A remembrance of Richard’s life will be 3:00pm Sunday, Nov. 5 at Kannapolis Church of God with Dr. Greg Sloop officiating.

Richard was born in Chatham New York to Reinhard and Lena Augusta Wegener Schnabel on September 1, 1938.  He attended Martin Van Buren High School in Kinderhook, New York and upon graduation served his country joining the United States Marines.

In his younger days Richard was a free spirit who loved an adventure.  He held many jobs including bowling pin setter, Golden Gloves boxer, professional wrestler going by the stage name Ricky Rommel the desert foxes nephew.  Eventually he settled on a career as a machinist with the railroad.  Richard so loved people and kids upon retiring he chose to drive a school bus for the Cabarrus County school system.

Richard loved the country and enjoyed living on his acreage.  While he rode the interstate highways he much preferred taking the two lane to see where it would go and to enjoy the sights of this great land.  He was a dedicated member of his church.

The one thing Richard loved more than anything else was his wife of 42 years Dorothy “Dottie: Lawing Schnabel who proceeded him in death.  Richard is survived by two sisters Evelyn Kalms of Queensbury New York and Marna Morrissette of Hot Springs Village, Arkansas, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
