Betty Lee Fisher Harkey, 90 of Mt. Pleasant, peacefully passed away at The Greens At Cabarrus in Kannapolis on Monday, February 27, 2023.

Funeral services will be held 11am, Saturday at Mount Pleasant United Methodist Church in the sanctuary, officiated by Rev. Earl Bradshaw. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The Harkey family will receive friends from 5-7pm Friday at Gordon Funeral Home of Mt. Pleasant.

Betty was born in Cabarrus County on March 23, 1932, to the late Elbert Ray Fisher and Lucy Lee Eudy Fisher. She was a graduate of Mt. Pleasant High School, class of 1951. Betty was a devoted lifetime member of Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church. She met and married Willis (Wick) Eugene Harkey on November 3, 1951. She held numerous jobs throughout her life including, Kirk’s Dry Cleaners, Penn Carol Hosiery Mill, and also serving as custodian for both Mt. Pleasant Middle and High Schools for 22 years until her retirement in 1992. After retiring, she enjoyed traveling all over the United States. She belonged to the Carolina Cardinals Camping Club. To help pass time on the road traveling, she enjoyed crocheting, quilting, and sleeping. When at home she loved to spend time with family and friends and this usually included food. In addition to her parents, Betty is preceded in death by; sister, Jean Penninger, brother Larry Fisher, and son in law Pete Barringer.

Betty is survived by husband of 71 years Wick Harkey of Mt. Pleasant, and daughters Betsy Culp (Jay) of Gold Hill, Cathy Harkey of Concord, and Ann Barringer of Mt. Pleasant. Grandchildren include; Erica Gibson, Paul Culp (Erin), Brent McLester (Kristen), Dakota Barringer, and Hunter Barringer (Victoria). Great Grandchildren include; Lauren Gibson, Josie Gibson, Claire Culp, Logan Culp, Jackson McLester, Walker Barringer, Anson Barringer, and Connor McLester.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a charity of your choice.

The family would like to thank the staff of The Greens At Cabarrus and Hospice of Cabarrus County for the compassion and care given to Betty during her recent decline in health.
