Billy Howard Swaringen, Sr.

Billy Howard Swaringen, Sr. 84, of Mt Pleasant. passed away Dec 23, 2017, at the Tucker Hospice House

A celebration of Bill’s life will begin at 3 pm Tuesday Dec 26 at Cold Springs United Methodist Church where he was a life-long member. The Rev. Dr. Anthony Bell and the Rev. Randy Wall will officiate, and burial will follow in the church cemetery. The Swaringen family will receive friends beginning at 1 pm in the church sanctuary.

Bill was born in Cabarrus County July 5, 1933, to Frank Owen Swaringen and Hilda Stokes Barnhardt Swaringen. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by two brothers, Ed and Hoyle, and a son-in-law, Dennis Gainey

A graduate of Mt. Pleasant High School, Bill was a retired grocery store manager, having worked for A&P, Piggly Wiggly and Food Lion. He was an outdoorsman at heart and enjoyed fishing and gardening, both vegetables and flowers. When his children were young, Bill and his wife, Joann, led the youth fellowship at Cold Springs. Prior to his declining health, he was an active member of the United Methodist Men.

Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Joann Ayscue Swaringen, son, Billy H. Swaringen, Jr., two daughters, Leeann Gainey and Lisa Chapman (Mike); nine grandchildren, Michael, Matthew (Christie), Mitchell, Trey, Ashley, Sara, Travis, Chasity and Marisa; three great-grandchildren, Alexis, Skyler and Theodore.
