Cynthia Jean Holmes Martin, passed away peacefully on May 2, 2026, at her home in Mount Pleasant, North Carolina, surrounded by her loving family. Born on November 8, 1951, in Auburn, New York, Cynthia’s life was a testament to compassion, dedication, and the joy found in caring for others.
Cynthia devoted her career to nursing, working as a registered nurse—a vocation that perfectly reflected her nurturing spirit and commitment to the well-being of those around her. Her professional life was marked not only by skill and diligence but also by a genuine love for helping people, a trait that endeared her to colleagues, patients, and friends alike.
Beyond her career, Cynthia was a woman of varied interests and talents. She took great pleasure in crocheting, reading, listening to country music, and watching movies. These pastimes provided her with comfort and joy throughout her life, enriching her time with creativity and relaxation.
Cynthia’s family meant the world to her. She is survived by her devoted husband, John F. Martin Sr., and their three cherished children: John F. Martin, Jr., Jessica Calleja, and Rebecca Smith (Joseph). Her legacy continues through her beloved grandchildren—Sydney Martin, Jocalyn Calleja, Reese Martin, Juan Calleja Jr., Chance Smith, Willow Martin, and Jade Calleja—each of whom held a special place in her heart. Cynthia also leaves behind her siblings John Holmes, Carolyn O’Neil, and Shirley Guy, who remember her with deep affection and respect.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Warren and Eleanor Moon Holmes, whose memory she honored throughout her life.
A memorial service to celebrate Cynthia’s life and legacy will be held on May 8, 2026, at 1:00 PM at Gordon Funeral Home of Mt. Pleasant, located at 8559 Cook St, Mount Pleasant, North Carolina. Friends and family are invited to gather in remembrance of a truly caring soul whose kindness touched many lives.
Cynthia Jean Martin’s life was marked by service, love, and enduring faithfulness to those she held dear. She will be profoundly missed but forever remembered for the gentle strength and warmth she brought into the lives of all who knew her.
