Mount Pleasant

David Lee Preddy

With deep sadness and broken hearts, we announce the death of David Lee Preddy. He died on Monday, July 6, 2026 at his beloved home in Mount Pleasant.

David was a cherished husband, father, grandfather and friend to many.

A memorial service will be held 2pm Monday, July 13, 2026 at Gordon Funeral Home of Mount Pleasant, 8559 Cook Street, Mount Pleasant, NC. The family will receive friends on Sunday July 12, 2026 from 6:00 -8:00pm at the funeral home and on Monday, July 13, 2026 from 9:00am-12:00 noon (David’s regular business hours).

He was a funeral service professional that served families of Mount Pleasant and the surrounding communities for over 40 years at Gordon Funeral Home of Mount Pleasant. David felt his work was an honor to serve people and treated all with care, compassion and kindness.

David was born in Greensboro, NC to James Robert Preddy, Sr. and Exie Walker Preddy. His family moved to Concord in 1967. He graduated from Mount Pleasant High School, Class of 1979 where he was elected Class Favorite all four years. He then graduated from Gupton-Jones College of Mortuary Science, Atlanta, GA in 1981. David gained valuable experience while employed at two other funeral homes in North Carolina. In 1985, David and Johnette returned home to Mount Pleasant to be a part of the family business. This was a dream come true for David.

David was a member of The Lutheran Church of The Holy Trinity and in recent years was also a regular participant in worship at Mount Pleasant Methodist Church through YouTube. He didn’t particularly like to attend meetings, but he was a longtime member of the Mount Pleasant Lions Club and served as a flag captain and the publisher of the club newsletter for 40 years.

David was very dedicated to his work. Away from the funeral home, he loved being at home mowing grass, cultivating his peach orchard and garden and he was a masterful cook.

David leaves his wife, Johnette Gordon Preddy; his son, Gordon Preddy and his wife Brooke, and his grandchildren and best buddies and pals, Palmer, Deacon and Saylor. He is also survived by his siblings; Cindy Love, Janet Hollopeter, James Robert (Jim) Preddy, Jr. He was predeceased by his parents and his brother Mark Preddy.
