Donald Hughes

Mr. Donald F. Hughes, Sr., 77, of Mt. Pleasant died Sunday, March 24, 2013 at Carolina's Medical Center Northeast. Mr. Hughes was born April 10, 1935 in Brockton, MA, son of the late Charles Russell Hughes and Meredith Eldridge Hughes. After serving his country in the US Navy and obtaining his education at MIT, he worked for IBM as an engineer for 36 years. Mr. Hughes was a member of the American Legion Post 51 and Oasis Shrines Temple of Charlotte, NC. He enjoyed fishing the lakes near his mountain home in Banner Elk, NC, playing with his dogs, and spending time talking with everyone he met. Mr. Hughes was brother to the late Marilyn Eldridge Hughes Clark, and husband of late Edith Ruth Mumblow Hughes. He is survived by his sister Avis Creeden of North Attleboro, MA; son Donald F. Hughes, Jr. of Concord, NC; a daughter Tracy Hughes Riddle of Colusa, CA; Step daughter Robin Mumblow Grubb and husband Steve Grubb; and many nieces and nephews.
