Dorothy “Dottie” Lawing Schnabel, 70, of Mt. Pleasant, died on Sunday, Sept. 6, 2015, at Five Oaks Nursing Center after a period of declining health.
A celebration of her life will begin at 7:00pm Friday at Kannapolis Church of God, with Dr. Greg Sloop officiating. Visitation for family and friends from 5-7pm prior to the service.
Dottie was born in Mecklenburg County, NC, on March 4, 1945, to Dennis Lawing and Louise Cook Lawing. She was predeceased by her parents and a brother, Donald Lawing.
Dottie enjoyed a long career with Deloitte and Touche as office manager in Charlotte. Her reputation as a whiz with numbers and her ability to identify and nurture the talent and skills for success in newly hired employees solidified her reputation as a caring and beloved associate throughout the Deloitte and Touche organization and the broader accounting and bookkeeping community. A naturally positive person, Dottie always saw the good in everyone and in every situation.
In addition to her professional success and leadership prowess, Dottie enjoyed gardening, animals and travel. She was a past president of the Cabarrus Master Gardeners, secretary of the Cabarrus Animal Protection Agency , a volunteer at CMC-Northeast and a 16-year board member of a Shell Island Resort Hotel at Wrightsville Beach. She enjoyed traveling the world on business and for pleasure.
Dottie is survived by her husband of 42 years, Richard Schnabel, of the home; two sisters, Ann L. Cook and Martha Jane L. Robinson; and two brothers, David Lawing and Dennis Lawing.
