Leonard was born April 18, 1945, to the late Harold Leonard Moose Sr. and Ruth Hill Moose. Leonard was born in Cabarrus County, Mount Pleasant where he continued to grow throughout his childhood with his 3 other siblings, Benny Moose, Eddie Moose and Reba Zanfardino. Leonard attended and graduated from Mount Pleasant High School in 1963. He was the Marching Band Drum Major. This started his passion for music. Leonard’s joking personality and charm made him many friends for life. After graduation, Leonard enlisted into the United States Air Force.

While serving in the USAF, he was stationed in Big Spring Texas at Big Spring Air Force Base now known as Webb Air Force Base. While in West Texas, he met Georgia Kay Wise. He was sent overseas to Thailand. Leonard received an honorary discharge, He married Georgia and they and lived in Mount Pleasant NC where they had 2 children, Amy Christine Hunt and Leonard Scott Moose. Leonard had a passion for West Texas, and he decided to relocate his family to Odessa, Texas where he worked in the Oil Field as a contract pumper and ranch hand. He was a true Cowboy at heart. Leonard loved his family and discovered his love of Bluegrass.     Leonard played in a few bands, but it wasn’t until he met Jerry and Penney Wells of Mercedes Bluegrass that his piece of the puzzle finally fit and was complete.

After putting in over 40 years in the Oil Fields and Texas, Leonard had a one-year plan to move back to NC with his daughter and Mercedes Bluegrass. April 2013. He made that move and helped take care of his mother and helped his brother on the family farm.   Leonard was a man of faith as he attended regular Sunday morning church services. He never met a stranger, and if you ever had the opportunity to just sit and talk to him, you would never forget him! He was one of a kind and always had something interesting to say to the end of every conversation.  He loved to entertain with music and hang out with his friends. Stirring the Brunswick Stew was his top priority and he would instruct on how you stir it to make it taste so good. Making whole hog sausage was another event in which he looked forward to participating. He loved NASCAR, and he would never admit it, but he liked watching WWE Friday Night Smackdown!
