James Conrad Little, Jr., affectionately known as Jim, passed peacefully into his heavenly home on the morning of February 20, 2026, in Lumberton, North Carolina. Born on October 27, 1942, in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, Jim's life was marked by a deep commitment to his family, his faith, and his vocation.
He is survived by his second wife, Diane Stankwytch Little, of Lumberton, NC. He was a devoted father to his three children: Mary Ann Thornton (Michael) of Sevierville, TN, Sally Bell (Tony) of Claremont, NC, and Jamie Miller of Asheville, NC. His legacy also includes four cherished grandchildren: Savannah and Rhyne Thornton and Ethan and Eli Bell. Also mourning his loss is his brother, Doug Little, of Sanford, NC.
Jim was preceded in death by his first wife, Peggy Gayle Fields Little of Climax, NC, and his parents, James C. Little Sr. and Sarah Frances Little, who undoubtedly shaped the values he carried throughout his life.
A long-time family physician of 55 years, Jim dedicated his career to caring for the health and well-being of his patients in both Sanford and Climax, NC. His warmth and kindness extended fiercely to those he cared for, embodying the spirit of service. Beyond his professional accomplishments, Jim was known for his gift of writing, creating poetry and Christian commentary that resonated with family and friends.
A person of unwavering faith, Jim was a long-time member of Bethlehem Methodist Church, where he taught Sunday school classes for many years. He shared profound insights into God's word and enjoyed posting scripture and theological reflections that encouraged others on their spiritual journey. Jim's passion for sharing the truths of Jesus brought him great fulfillment and served as an inspiration for others.
A private graveside service will be held for immediate family on February 22, 2026, at Bethlehem Methodist Church in Climax, NC. Memorials may be given to Bethlehem Methodist Church in Climax, NC.
