Jerline Aldridge Sossamon

Jerline Inez Aldridge Sossamon, 91 of Mt. Pleasant, passed away on Sunday, April 14, 2024 at Saint Andrews Living Center following a brief two week illness. Jerline was also known as “Jerry”.  

Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 20 at 1:00 at Gordon Funeral Home of Mount Pleasant.  The family will receive friends beginning at 12:00 Noon.

She was born in Cabarrus County, September 9, 1932, daughter of the late Cline and Nora Whitley Aldridge. Jerry attended school in Mount Pleasant, NC. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard Sossamon. They were married on August 16, 1949 in Franklin, KY. She was also preceded in death by a grandson, Shane Tyler Poole; as well as three sisters and one brother. 

Jerry worked in the restaurant industry for years. She was known for her love of God and her family.  She spent many hours sewing, crocheting, quilting and knitting. She loved working in her yard with her many flowers.  Jerry, Leonard and their children always had a large vegetable garden. The entire family spent many hours working in the garden and then canning and freezing the bounty.  She loved cooking and baking for her family and sharing her love of music.  

A loving Mom and devoted Christian, Jerry instilled her faith in God with each of her children and always believed and kept her faith strong.  A longtime member of Mount Pleasant Pentecostal Holiness Church and the Ladies Auxiliary, she loved her church, and they all loved her. 

Jerry was a devoted and loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother.  She thoroughly enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She had a soft spot for animals, treating all as valued family members.  She will always be remembered for her love and devotion for her church and for sharing God's love with her family, extended family and many friends.

She is survived by five children, Leonard Brown Sossamon, Jr. and wife Esther. Joel Thomas Sossamon and wife Delores, Randy Sossamon and wife Pattie, Robin Lynn Sossamon and wife Pam. Terry Lynn Sossamon Gleason.
