Kathleen Paula Medalis

Kathleen (Kathy) Paula Pozniak Medalis, 83, died peacefully in hospice care on August 8, 2026. Born on February 25, 1944 in Detroit, Michigan, Kathy was known as a kind and caring person with a passion for education.

As a teacher, she was patient, yet firm with her students, and always made sure they were proud of their work. Kathy spent hours creating displays for her students’ assignments, whether it was a painted picture or a math problem. Her classroom was filled with her creativity and artistic touch. She taught at Mount Pleasant Elementary School for many years until she retired.

A devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, Kathy enjoyed antiques throughout her life. Her children, Katrina and Nick, remember tagging along at estate sales while their mother selected perfect pieces to display in their home or sell at various antique markets. She had an eye for finding treasures, and for many years, she hosted a booth called Home Again Antiques at The Salisbury Emporium and later at The Depot at Gibson Mill in Concord.

Kathy is survived by her husband of 60 years, Edward Medalis, of Concord; son, Nicholas Edward Medalis (Tamy) of Norfolk, Virginia; daughter, Katrina Ellen Medalis Barringer (Ryan) of Mount Pleasant; grandchildren, Alden and Breckin Medalis of Norfolk, Virginia and Nolan and Knox Barringer of Mount Pleasant; brother, Richard Pozniak of Traverse City, Michigan; and sister, Carolyn Keen (Randy) of Munro Lake, Michigan. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ambrose and Wanda Pozniak and sister, Sharon Pozniak.

In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in Kathy’s memory to the Mount Pleasant Elementary School PTO, 8555 North Drive, Mount Pleasant, NC 28124. A private celebration of life with her family will take place in Michigan.
