Martha Harwood

Martha Virginia Freeman Harwood, 96 of Gold Hill Rd., Mt. Pleasant, passed away Wednesday, May 28, 2014 at her residence. Funeral service will be 4:00pm Saturday at Mt. Olive Lutheran Church officiated by Rev. Michael Johnson, burial will follow in the church cemetery. The Harwood family will receive friends from 6-7:30pm Friday at Gordon Funeral Home of Mt. Pleasant. Mrs. Harwood was born January 18, 1918 in Cabarrus County daughter of the late Luther Freeman and Catherine Cline Freeman. She was a member of Mt. Olive Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday school, sang in the choir and was a very active member. She enjoyed sewing, quilting, crocheting, knitting, cooking, fishing and gardening. She spent her life caring for others and gave freely of her time. She enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Willis C. Harwood. She is survived by a son Melvin Harwood, daughter, Catherine Harwood Murray, sister Lula Mae Swinson, grandchildren, Chad Murray, Dale Murray, Tisha Harwood, Jason Harwood and Tanya Harwood, great grandchildren, Chasidy Hinson, Chandler Murray, Kayla Murray, Dalton Murray, Mara Hartsell, Renlee Forrest, Zoe Kindley, step great granddaughters, Jorey and Brittany Stanley.
