Mary Frances Coley Suther

Mary Frances Coley Suther, 80, of Concord passed through the gates of heaven with her husband George at her home, Thursday March 17, 2022.

Funeral services will be held 2pm Monday March 21 at Grace Bible Church, 6725 Hwy 152, Rockwell NC 28138 officiated by Rev. Joey Phillips. Burial will follow at St. John’s Lutheran Church Cemetery. The Suther family will receive friends from 6:30-8:30pm Sunday March 20 at Gordon Funeral Home of Mt. Pleasant. At other times, the family will be at Frances’ home.

Frances was born in Cabarrus County, September 22, 1941 to the late Doctor William and Mary Alice Henley Coley. She graduated from Mt Pleasant High School in 1959. Frances grew up in the Mount Pleasant community and spent her adult years living in Concord with her husband George. Frances was an elementary school teacher for over 30 years; she touched the hearts and lives of hundreds of children. She loved to sew, cook, bake and was quite the artist. She loved arts and crafts, tending her flowers and helping with the garden harvest in the form of canning. She loved to read.

She was a member of Grace Bible Church where she taught Sunday school and working in the Awana Program. She was there every Sunday with her husband and enjoyed teaching children and adults as well as mentoring the ladies of the church. She was also a member of the choir.

Frances was a member of St. John’s Grange and also served the NC State Grange for over 30 years as the State Pomona. She also served as the NC State Grange Junior Director for many years.

Frances was an active member of the Coldwater ECA and served initially as a Vice President and then eventually as President. She would not miss a national, state, or district meeting. She was very instrumental in the County ECA fundraising organization. She was also a member of the Educational Travel Club.

Frances was a member of the local Breakfast Birthday Club whose members were classmates and dear friends.

She is survived by her two daughters, Rhonda Whitaker, husband Kevin and children Christin Hale (Henry), Solomon (Maggie), and Zackery Drake; Tina Suther and son Joey Sisinyak; great grandchildren Charlotte Hale, Catherine Hale and Poppy Drake; a brother Coy Coley (Joyce) and a sister Judy Coley; beloved niece Teresa Hill who was “her third daughter” as well as many other nieces and nephews; and great nieces and nephews.
