Mollie Collins Stirewalt

Mollie Susan Collins Stirewalt, 95 of Mt Pleasant, passed away Saturday, March 7th, 2026 at her home after a long battle with Alzheimer’s. She was born March 24th, 1930, in Kannapolis, Rowan County, to the late Samuel Collins, Sr and Katherine Baylor Huggins.

Mollie graduated from J W Cannon High in Kannapolis with the class of 1948. She was a member of the Mt Pleasant Methodist Church for 59 years and participated in the Women’s Circle and Quilting Club when her health permitted. She also worked in Puerto Rico twice on church building teams.

She worked in Cannon Mills after graduation for several years before marring Billie “Bill” Stirewalt on June 4th, 1950. She traveled all over the country with him as he served in the US Navy. During that time they had four children and Mollie became a super stay at home Mom. Living in California, Illinois, Maine, Connecticut and Pennsylvania, they returned home to Cabarrus County in 1967.

She and Bill loved to do Western Square Dancing. They were members of the Flutter Wheels Club in Kannapolis for over 40 years. She also loved camping and was a charter member of the Carolina Cardinals chapter of Family Campers and RVers for over fifty years. Starting out in an 8x10 tent with four children and moving up to a 32 foot fifth wheel later in life, she visited and camped in all 50 states, spending two summers in Alaska. As an avid seamstress, she made all of her girls’ clothing, her square dancing costumes, draperies, etc. As a quilter, she made a quilt for each of her grandchildren.

She is survived by husband Bill, son Keith (Robin) of Raleigh, daughters Judy (Lane) Kendall of Mt Pleasant, Nancy Stirewalt of Concord, Tina (Scott) Brown of High Point and sister-in-law Martha Stirewalt of High Point; grandsons Jason (Heather ) Kendall, Matthew (Amber) Kendall, Alan Brown, Zachary Stirewalt, Alexander Stirewalt and granddaughter Molly Brown; great-grandchildren Carson Kendall, Jonas Kendall, and Stella Kendall.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by brothers William (Francis), Samuel Jr (Audrey), Elliott and Joseph Collins and sister-in-law Janie Lou Rushing.

Funeral services will be held, 3pm Saturday March 14, at Mount Pleasant Methodist Church in the Sanctuary, officiated by Rev. Earl Bradshaw. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The Stirewalt family will recieve friends in the worship center from 1-3 prior to the service.
