Robert "Bob" Harris

Robert "Bob" Harris,71, passed peacefully in his home on Thursday, February 18 surrounded by family. Funeral services officiated by Rev. Earl Bradshaw will be held at 3pm Sunday, February 21, at Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The Harris family will receive friends from 2-3 prior to the service at the church. Robert was born June 7, 1949 in Burke County to the late Joseph and Jeanne Wagner Harris. In addition to his parents, Robert was predeceased by a sister Constance Harris Weltz. In the 70s-80s, he enjoyed watching NASCAR racing and cheering on Harry Gant. In the 90s-2000s, he loved going as fast as possible down the Mooresville Dragstrip in his rail or other dragsters. Most recently, he and Alice enjoyed long rides and car shows in their 39 Ford named "Lucy." He was an active member of the Mount Pleasant UMC and enjoyed serving through cooking for hot dog lunches and Sunday men's breakfast. Bob's most prized honor was the title of "Paw Paw" to Zachary (Ashley), Luke, Robbie, Haley and Harrison as well as his appointment last year as the President of the Mount Pleasant Lion's Club. He is survived by the love of his life, Alice, to whom he was married for 48 years. He was the proud father of two daughters, Libby Gant (Eric Davis) of Charlotte and Stephanie Turner (Bryan) of Apex. He is also survived by two brothers Joseph Harris, III of the Philippines and Martin Harris of Alabama. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Mount Pleasant UMC building fund, P.O.
