Samuel Fredrick Byrd

Samuel (Sam) F. Byrd, 80, of Mount Pleasant, passed away, Tuesday, November 25, 2025 at his residence surrounded by his family.

Graveside service will be 2:00pm Monday, December 1, 2025 at Mount Gilead Lutheran Church Cemetery, 11199 Hwy 73, Mount Pleasant, officiated by Rev. Scott Swinx.

The Byrd family will receive friends from 12:30-1:30pm Monday at Gordon Funeral Home of Mount Pleasant, 8559 Cook Street, Mount Pleasant.

Sam was born August 7, 1945 in Cabarrus County son of the late Robert L. Byrd, Sr. and Johnsie Hahn Byrd. He was a member of Mount Gilead Lutheran Church. He was a retired dockworker, working for Johnson Motor Lines and Yellow Freight; he also worked construction with local contractors. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, four wheeling and stretching stories. He also enjoyed woodworking and metal craftwork.

Sam is survived by his wife Judy Hammill Byrd; daughters, Michele Plowman (Roger) and Samantha Byrd; brother, Robert L. “Bob” Byrd, Jr. (Janet); sister Kay Byrd; grandchildren, BryAnna Ballard, Trent Plowman (Brianna) and Travis Plowman.
