Sharon Elizabeth Henry, age 71, of Concord, North Carolina, died on Saturday, September 5, 2015, after several months of declining health. She was preceded in death by her parents, Fred Jennings Henry and Wenonah Askey Henry and is survived by her sister Lynda Henry Hayes, of Charlotte, NC; her nephew, James C. Johnson, III and wife, Maxine Lowder Johnson, of Mt. Pleasant, NC; her nieces, Kay L. Johnson of Mt. Pleasant, NC and Jen Cherise Johnson McKay of Lafayette, CO, as well as her great nephews, Andrew James Johnson and wife, Dadrianne Hinson Johnson; and Benjamin Jennings Johnson and wife, Hailey Smith Johnson, and her great niece, Sara Elizabeth Johnson. Born in Detroit, Michigan, Sharon grew up in Maggie Valley, NC were she graduated from Waynesville Township High School in 1962 and from Western Carolina University in 1966 with a BS degree in Business Education and Spanish. She earned a Masters degree in Business Education from Western Carolina as well as an Education Specialist from Georgia State University. She taught for over 33 years including at DeKalb and Chattahoochee Technical Colleges in Georgia where she lived for over 40 years. Sharon enjoyed singing in the choir and was an accomplished organist and pianist. The joys of her life were teaching, traveling and her family. As per Sharon’s wishes, a graveside service will be held at Garrett Hillcrest Memorial Park in Waynesville, NC on Saturday, September 12, 2015, at 10:00 a.m. Burial services will be handled by Gordon Funeral Home of Mt. Pleasant, NC. Memorials may be made to the Maggie Methodist Church, in Maggie Valley, NC or the local Alzheimer’s Association.
