Sherry Lynn Strube, born on February 14, 1965, in Cabarrus County, NC, passed away peacefully while surrounded by family on January 13, 2026, at Atrium Health - Cabarrus after a courageous fight with cancer. One of her favorite songs, “Yeah!” by Usher, coincidentally played on the TV as she passed, and we knew that it was her way of telling us that she was ok.
Sherry was a beloved mother, sister, niece, aunt, and grandmother who touched the lives of many with her warmth, kindness, and humble spirit.
For over two decades, Sherry dedicated herself to her work at Rick's Deli/MP Food Mart, where she became a cherished presence within the community. Her commitment to her career was a testament to her hardworking nature and her desire to contribute positivity to the lives of those around her. Sherry found immense joy in the simpler moments of life, whether she was walking her dog Chance, or enjoying time with her grandson Asa while watching SpongeBob SquarePants together. Sherry and Asa were two peas in a pod, and the best of friends. Every day, Sherry would stop by WAB #13 for two diet Sundrops with crushed ice to enjoy throughout her day. A small, yet delightful routine that brought her joy.
Sherry is survived by her son, Kevin Strube, and his wife, Britney; her grandson, Asa; and her dog Chance. She is also survived by her sister, Tammy Kincaid; her aunt, Gloria Burgess; her niece, Jennifer (Brent) Hunter and family; and her cousins, Jimmy Fink; Angie (Billy) Sutton and family; Marion “JR” Taylor and family; Roy Marze Jr.; and Buffy Taylor and family. Sherry also leaves behind her beloved breakfast crew, who will carry her memory forward in their hearts.
Sherry was predeceased by her mother and father, Sonya Joann Allen and Johnny Strube, as well as her beloved dogs Oreo and Cookie, who were also cherished members of her family.
A visitation will be held in her honor on Sunday, January 18, 2026, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Gordon Funeral Home and Crematory, located at 8559 Cook St, Mt Pleasant, NC 28124.
Sherry will be missed dearly, but her spirit, love, and the cherished memories she created will forever remain in the hearts of all who knew her.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to Abhi Patel and his staff for everything they have done for Sherry over the last few weeks.
In Lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be directed to the Mt. Pleasant Animal Rescue, 8750 E. Franklin St., Suite C-6, Mt. Pleasant, NC 28124.
