Stephen “Buddy” Stancil, 77, of Mt. Pleasant passed away July 10, 2026 at Atrium Cabarrus.
At his request, a visitation will be held from 5-7pm July 16, 2026 at Gordon Funeral Home of Mt. Pleasant, 8559 Cook St., Mt. Pleasant NC 28124.
Buddy was born in Cabarrus County, May 13, 1949 to the late William and Marie Fink Stancil. He graduated from Mount Pleasant High School class of 1968. Earlier in life he was a good athlete; he was a member of the 1964 2A State Championship football team, he also enjoyed playing softball, in the St. John’s Church League for the Rimer Royals and in the Charlotte Industrial League. Buddy worked for 51 years for BellSouth and AT&T as a warehouseman. He was president of the Union for the years of 1997-1999. He was always a jokester and enjoyed a good laugh. When not working Buddy enjoyed wood working, he was an avid gardener, sharing his harvest with anyone he could; fishing in local ponds and deep sea fishing out of South Port for king mackerel. He enjoyed Nascar and was a Dale Earnhardt fan, he was also a long time UNC Tarheel fan.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Janet Hill Stancil; son Brian Stancil; brother Richard Stancil (Sylvia); sisters Ailene Monroe, Kimberly Coyle and Karen Harris (Greg); and numerous nieces and nephews.
The Stancil family would like to thank the staff at Mount Pleasant House for the six years of care they gave Buddy.
